The unprecedented grassroots effort mounted by Miami activists to "save the Circle," which since last January has captured world-wide interest, continues on Sunday, June 20th, 1999 -- Father's Day -- with the largest and most diverse "Circle Event" yet planned -- a Special "Miami Circle Solstice Celebration" -- to be held in Mary Brickell Park.

This Special Gathering of diverse and well-known talent, representative of cultures from all around the Planet -- multi-cultural musical acts, indigenous drummers, native and other forms of dance, ceremonialists, as well as scientists and Special Guest Speakers, including performances representative of cultures as far away as China and Japan -- will seek to remind everyone on this day, in a variety of ways, of what the Circle truly means.

From the "lite rock" of the Zetafest group, "Dirty Penny", to the jazz of the well-known George Tandy, to the incredibly colorful traditional Brazilian all-girl dance group, "Frevo," everyone's musical tastes one way or another will be amply addressed this afternoon. Dave Caprita, former DJ for Love 94 (and currently a rising actor), will be the Emcee for the Event. (Dave is now heard locally on WRLX-92X, in West Palm Beach.) Also to be featured in the line-up: Japanese drumming, martial arts dancing, acoustic and vocal recording artists, funk, Haitian tribal musical, Spanish/English rock hip-hop, and even an African Drum Group -- in this truly global celebration of the Circle's ageless Impact:

"We Once Were One People on this Planet -- 'a Circle yet unbroken ...' And, We Must Become One With Each Other Once Again."

A special Television Documentary of the Event will be shot that afternoon (be a part of this unique television's moment!), as well as a Special mastered musical CD, featuring the best performances. Proceeds from post-Event sales of these two records of the Celebration will be donated by the organizers and performers towards purchase and continued documentation of the Circle. Donations towards these Goals will also be periodically solicited from the attending audience. Miami-Dade Community service groups and other non-profits are invited to set up booths for this Event, educating the public that, "Yes, we have a real community spirit here ... that works!" [For further information on this aspect of the Event, please call (305) 270-8890.]

This gala fund-raising Celebration is being co-sponsored by the Vision Earth Society and the Archaeological Conservancy, both local non-profit organizations, as well as many pioneering individuals who are also seeking to raise funds so that the Circle will not be destroyed. It is supported by The Dade-Hertiage Trust, the Archaeological Society and Miami-Dade County. The official Website of the Event is "Savethecircle.org." The toll-free number: "1-800-4-Circle."

The unique June 20th "Solstice Musical Celebration" is being held in Mary Brickell Park (within a few hundred feet of the Circle itself, just off Brickell Avenue south of the Sheraton Hotel), in honor of the literally thousands of years of prior celebrations to the longest day of the year, once held on this sacred ground. The Circle, according to some experts, was an astronomical device used for marking the "solstices and equinoxes." Thus, for the first time in over 2000 years this Sacred Circle, according to both Science and Native American traditions, is about to fulfill its age-old function once again ...

Opening Ceremonies will begin at 2:00 PM, Sunday afternoon. Invited dignitaries (Governor Bush, Mayors Corollo and Penelas, City and County Commissioners, Native Americans, and all those other "VIPs "-- those who have truly helped us "Save the Circle" up to this point) will be part of these colorful Opening events.

The diverse performances themselves, interspersed with Sacred Ceremonies and mini-presentations on "the meaning of the Circle for Miami", will run from 3:00 PM to 9:00. A Special Invitation to all boat owners in the Miami Area has been issued for this afternoon: "Come by the Circle, off Brickell point. A slow procession past the stage, set literally at the eastern, waters edge of Mary Brickell Park, will form a 'floating honor guard!'"

A Feature Presentation, "the Science and Meaning of the Circle" -- with big-screen Television Projection, Live from the Circle itself, featuring archaeologists Bob Carr and Jim Adams, surveyor Ted Riggs, and former NASA and CBS News Science Advisor, Richard C. Hoagland, will take place just after sunset, between 9:00 and 10:00 PM.

A Major Drumming Circle will finish up the Evening from 10:00 to Midnight.

The ALL NIGHT Solstice Vigil will then commence at the Miami Circle (a few hundred feet away, just outside the fence), led by Geeta Sacred Song, a Mayan Shaman, taking hardy participants into Monday, June 21st. Sacred Ceremonies, chants, and music -- synchronized in honor of "Peace and Prayer Day" commemorations at other Sacred Sites on the 21st all over the world -- will greet the first actual Solstice over the exposed Miami Circle in over two millennia ...
